Functional Ceramic Gallery.
My functional ceramic ware forms an essential and grounding part of my wider practice. While my sculptural work explores the body and femininity through scale and abstraction, my functional pieces allow these ideas to enter the everyday objects designed to be held, used and lived with.
I create my functional ware using hand-thrown wheel techniques, embracing the rhythm and physicality of the process. Working on the wheel offers a different, yet equally meditative, relationship with clay.
The forms, surfaces and gestures within my functional pieces draw directly from my illustrative sketches. Curves, folds and subtle irregularities echo the female body, reflecting themes of softness, strength and imperfection. Rather than striving for uniformity, I allow slight variations to remain, celebrating individuality and making with the human hand.
