EARTHBOUND COW SPLATS
This mug has been wheel-thrown from stoneware clay. It was initially fired to approximately 1060 degrees Celsius. An mat cream glaze was then applied with an earthy brown in a playful ‘cow splat’ pattern. The mug was then re-fired to approximately 1240 degrees Celsius.
Key qualities
Material: high-fired stoneware for durability and functional use.
Glaze: Mat and earthy brown cream, with a ‘cow splat’ pattern.
Size: large
What to expect:
Unique patterns of movement and colour; no two mugs are ever identical.
A stable, functional vessel suitable for daily use and display.
Care
Handwashing recommend.
Avoid sudden temperature changes (do not move directly from freezer to hot liquid).
Minor surface variations are inherent to the piece and part of its character.
Each piece is a one-off, created through layered and experimental glaze combinations to achieve unique, unrepeatable finishes. I use commercially available glazes rated as food safe, and lead free. Due to the nature of layering, the finish combination is inherently unique and therefore not individually tested.
